Agile Team Benchmark for Capgemini, Delivered to Eneco

The Issue at hand

Eneco wanted an objective, third-party view of both the overall quality of the application and the performance of Capgemini's three India-based teams, benchmarked against industry averages — so Capgemini asked us to provide it.

The Service Provided

We ran its three-part Agile Value Management service:

• Source code measurement against the ISO 25010 standard, run jointly with partner Boncode for the OutSystems portion of the codebase.

• Functional Size Measurement of the functionality delivered in Program Increment 2 of 2022, using ISO-standard Nesma function points, to quantify value produced.

• Team performance metrics — productivity, cost efficiency, delivery speed, and process quality — benchmarked against a peer group matched on industry and technology.

The outcomes achieved

The code analysis found that maintainability of the PL/SQL and Oracle Forms code had degraded significantly over the application's 24-year life, with high duplication and complexity; the newer OutSystems portion was in much better shape, though a few architectural flaws needed addressing. Team productivity came in below market average, explained largely by the code's low maintainability and complexity, while cost efficiency, delivery speed, and process quality were close to or in line with peers. With no pre-handover baseline available, it wasn't possible to isolate quality specifically introduced by Capgemini's team — but the assessment gave Capgemini a clear, evidence-based baseline and a concrete improvement list (fix the OutSystems architectural flaws, improve user story quality, adopt Jira best practices, and reduce code complexity) to show measurable progress against at the next measurement, and to demonstrate to Eneco.

We delivered the findings as a code-quality baseline and a concrete improvement list, giving Capgemini and Eneco a shared, evidence-based view to track progress against at the next measurement.
